WEST AFRICAN NURSERY SCHOOL REACHES TARGET THANKS TO ROTARY

Our Shropshire Rotary club which made a Christmas dream come true for a school in West Africa has received a big thank you. Members agreed to an urgent Christmas Aid Appeal from the trustees of Ebo Town Community Nursery School in time for a very tight cut-off date.

The club donated £130 to help the school reach its target which enabled them to buy a bag of rice for every family at the school. Trustee of the school Kaylee Nicholls has written to Shrewsbury Severn Rotary Club with a ‘massive thanks’ for the donation to make this happen. “We handed out just less than 2 tons of rice to all our children!” she said in her communication with the club’s secretary Rotarian Gareth Watkins.

She has also shared pictures from the last day of term.

In their appeal for the £130 donation, the trustees told Rotary: “With the cost of living crisis spreading across the world we know that things are harder than ever before. This is especially true in The Gambia which is why we felt it important to still run our usual Christmas Aid Appeal. The money raised will be used to buy as much rice as we possibly can to give to children and families at our school and if possible the wider community. As little as £15 can feed a family for over a month.”

Said Gareth: “On behalf of the club I have wished them all good luck with their ongoing fundraising activities for such a vital overseas community project”.
