A previously cancelled presentation by Supervet Noel Fitzpatrick, which the former High Sheriff of Shropshire was planning to attend, has been re-arranged. Due to the coronavirus pandemic the visit of the Supervet to Theatre Severn, planned by Shrewsbury Severn Rotary Club last September, was forced to be cancelled. At the time it was much to the disappointment of then High Sheriff Dean Harris – a ‘big fan’ of the Supervet – as well as 260 other people who had bought tickets for the presentation. The good news is that the event at Theatre Severn has been rescheduled for Monday September 13 at 7.30 pm. And previously booked tickets are still valid.
Said organiser Rotarian Julian Wells of Shrewsbury Severn Rotary Club: “The details remain on the Theatre Severn website and all the previous information we published is current. We have been very fortunate to secure Noel’s visit to Shrewsbury and his agreement to change his schedule as a result of Covid at a time when keeping a veterinary practice going through a pandemic has been a huge challenge.”
He said Noel’s second book ‘How Animals Saved My Life’ was published in the autumn of 2020 and quickly reached the top of the best-seller charts. “Hopefully,” said Julian, himself a veterinary consultant, “we will be arranging a signing session for anyone wishing to purchase a copy of this revealing story of Noel’s efforts to push forward the frontiers of veterinary orthopaedic practice.
“Noel is well known to the public as the Supervet on Channel 4. In the veterinary profession he is a controversial figure because he boldly raises issues around the ethics and morals of cutting edge veterinary surgical intervention and its role in the concept of ‘One Medicine.’ “As he explains in his book, this has sometimes found him in conflict with the profession’s regulator. However, his approach has also encouraged a generation of applicants to veterinary school. “These are youngsters who have been inspired by his attitude, devotion to animal welfare, and compassion. Shrewsbury Severn Rotary Club is very pleased to be able to welcome Noel to Shrewsbury.”
Said the former High Sheriff: “I was very disappointed when the original date was postponed, so I’m thrilled to see the Noel Fitzpatrick, Supervet, will be visiting Shropshire this autumn. “Theatre Severn, and the rest of the county’s arts and entertainment venues, being able to reschedule shows and think about the future is a positive and welcome sign of life slowly returning back to some sort of normality.”
She added: “I’d like to thank the Rotary members for all the wonderful charity work they do within the county, and for all their efforts in what has been an extremely difficult year.”
