Shoppers are in for a real festive treat in the exciting run-up to Christmas for the long-established Rotary sleigh with Santa and his elves will be present at Shrewsbury supermarkets.
Organisers of the sleigh, Shrewsbury Severn Rotary Club, say their presence promises to be ‘better than ever’.
Furrows of Shrewsbury have joined up with Rotary to kindly supply a Ford towing vehicle which Rotary say ‘will give Rudolph some much needed rest.’ The first supermarket appearance is scheduled to be on Monday December 5 at Asda between 12.00pm-6.00pm. After that the sleigh will be at Sainsbury’s, Morrison’s and Tesco at a similar time of day.
As well as supermarket visits, Rotary has arranged for the sleigh to be in Pontesbury on December 3 between 12.00pm-2.00pm; Monkmoor on December 6 for two hours starting at 6.00pm; Sundorne Avenue and Harlescoot on December 9 6.00pm-8.00pm and Mount Pleasant on December 11 for a similar two hours in the evening.
Said the sleigh rota organiser Fred McDonogh, Shrewsbury Severn Rotary Club’s president: “The presence of the sleigh, with of course Santa and his elves, provides a great deal of pleasure to the young and not so young in the run-up to Christmas. “The tradition has been carried out by Shrewsbury Severn Rotary Club for many years and we receive great feedback from all the venues we visit. There is no question that this is a highlight for many people who give generously to the local charities we support. The sleigh has been refurbished and it is with much expectation we look forward to taking it to the supermarkets and other districts of the town. It is of course a pleasure to be able to provide such an exciting build-up to Christmas and our Rotarians appreciate the happiness their involvement gives to so many people at this time.”
