From its annual two major fundraising events, Shrewsbury Severn Rotary Club announced today a total of nearly £15,000 which will be earmarked for charity.
Despite continuing Covid restrictions, the club received £9,253 from its Santa sleigh activities which included a presence at Shrewsbury supermarkets as well as tours of the town’s suburbs.
Shrewsbury Severn Rotary’s Tree of Light at St Mary’s Church raised £5,344 and the club has decided to add to this from its charity account which will enable each of the three nominated charities, Shrewsbury Food Hub, Sundorne Youth Club and Severndale School Futures, to receive £2,500 each.
Said the club’s vice president Rotarian Fred McDonogh: “Our tree of light and Santa Sleigh were met with a very warm and even more generous welcome by the people of Shrewsbury.
“The funds so readily contributed will be used to support the legion of volunteers in the many organisations that champion those in difficulty in our town.”
