A Rotary club’s newest – and youngest – members have been awarded top posts in readiness for the start of the new Rotary year. Newly elected president of Shrewsbury Severn Rotary Club is local man David Morris who joined last year and vice president is Maria Jones who has been a member for nearly three years.
David organises motor sports events whilst Maria is a fundraiser for Midlands Air Ambulance. They will take up their new appointments from the start of the new Rotary year on July 1. Of his appointment, David said: “As a relative newcomer to Rotary and membership of the club I regard the appointment as a great privilege. I am enjoying all aspects of the club’s activities and really looking forward to the new Rotary year when I am hoping Shrewsbury Severn will continue to progress both in its fundraising activities and membership.”
Said Maria: “The invitation to become vice president came as a complete surprise and I am thrilled to take up the challenge.”
The proposal to appoint David as president and Maria as vice president was put by current president Fred McDonogh and unanimously agreed by members. Said Fred: “We strive to be a vibrant club which is doing good things and I am confident that David and Maria both have the wherewithal to take Shrewsbury Severn to another level.”
