It was a real Christmas bonanza……our club’s fundraising achievement as a result of the popular Santa sleigh and Tree of Light.
Members of Shrewsbury Severn Rotary Club have been hearing of the ‘wonderful effort’ that the two major fundraisers have produced – a combined £12,850. President John Yeomans told members that the Santa sleigh had raised £9,250 – equal to the best ever year in 2019. “This is a wonderful effort by everybody involved,” he said. “It is a big thank you to everybody who took part because it was a united effort.”
In particular, he singled out Rotarians Julian Wells, Fred McDonogh and Chris Yaxley for their respective contributions to the Santa sleigh organisation and its success. The president also praised the Rotarians who took on the role of Santa which he also described as a ‘wonderful effort.’
He also praised the generosity of the people of Shrewsbury, the supermarkets for hosting the sleigh and the many hundreds who welcomed the sleigh on the neighbourhood tours.
“The challenge now will be to use this money to provide the maximum of support in our local communities”. The Club is particularly targeting education for the very young and also assisting the elderly, but also giving ongoing support to a number of community projects such as the Food Hubs and Ark. The Tree of Light money will be distributed to three specific charities, Shrewsbury Food Hub, Sundorne Youth Club and Severndale School Futures.
