A Rotary club’s Christmas gathering – which was cancelled last year due to Covid-19 – has raised £130 for the Barnabas Foodbank. The donation to the foodbank was the result of a raffle at the Christmas gathering of Shrewsbury Severn Rotary Club.
Thirty seven members and guests attended the event at the Prince Rupert Hotel, Shrewsbury, and raised the money for the foodbank from a raffle of prizes which included champagne, Prosecco, wine and chocolates.
“We hope this will help feed those less fortunate than ourselves,” said club president John Yeomans.
The club has held a carol service and afternoon tea at the United Reformed Church for 30 elderly residents in the Shrewsbury area. The service comprised six carols and four readings and was followed by afternoon tea for the residents who were transported to the church by Rotarians.
Partners of Rotarians prepared and served tea.
During tea, entertainment was provided by Karnival Knowledge featuring Ioan Wittmann and Maeve McMahon. And Santa made a surprise appearance to present raffle prizes.
For both events Shrewsbury Severn Rotary Club took great care to comply with current Covid-19 guidelines including use of lateral flow tests, masks and hand sanitizer.
