A service of celebration for the life of Brian Leverton was held at Shrewsbury United Reformed Church on July 22.
Brian, who died on July 1, was 94 – he would have been 95 on November 15 – and the congregation heard of the type of man Brian was, the good things he did and the legacy he has left behind.
The congregation was also told of his enthusiasm and zest for life, the happiness he brought and the unfailing memories that will live on in our lives.
There were few empty seats in the packed church for the service in memory of Brian who moved with his wife Margaret to Shrewsbury in 1960.
In a eulogy given by his son Tim who was born the year before in Leicester, the congregation heard of Brian’s connection with the Scout movement and his two years of National Service during which he repaired the telephone in Monty’s office!
Brian joined the Sentinel Works of Rolls Royce and subsequently travelled all over the world promoting a diesel engine built for battle tanks. It was his big project.
In 1969 he bought his first caravan which began a lifelong passion for caravanning that took the family all over Europe.
From the moment he was born he was surrounded by music. He became a founder member of the Phoenix Singers and a member of the choir at Shrewsbury United Reformed Church.
Brian, a Cornishman, also became a founder member of Shawbury & Mid Shropshire Rotary Club, today known as Shrewsbury Severn Rotary Club.
